The number of smartphones brought to Vietnam in the first quarter of this year decreased compared to last year. Experts forecast this number to continue to decrease further due to the general global situation and rising inflation.

The number of smartphones imported by manufacturers to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2022 decreased by 3% over the same period, according to Counterpoint data. Despite facing a shortage of components and inflation, the research firm believes that the reopening of the market and increased production activities have affected smartphone imports. In addition, this quarter saw positive data as the shopping month increased during the Lunar New Year, then gradually decreased in the following month.

In terms of the number of smartphones by manufacturers/imports, Samsung maintained its leading position in the market in Q1/2022 with 30.8% market share thanks to the popularity of Galaxy A series and Galaxy S22 series, especially Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Vietnamese consumers prefer high-end smartphones, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max are among the best sellers in this category.

Xiaomi is in second place with 20.6% market share. Its success is fueled by the recently launched Redmi 9 and Redmi Note 11 series. Oppo and Vivo are in 3rd and 4th place respectively with 14.4% and 11% market share.

Talking about the factors affecting Vietnam’s smartphone market in the first quarter, experts at Counterpoint said that the Lunar New Year holiday had revived demand at the beginning of the quarter, plus the launch of many products. It makes customers spend more money to buy more.

In addition, airlines also actively launch promotional programs to push goods. For example, Xiaomi bundles the Mi Pad 5 and the Xiaomi Air Purifier with pre-orders of the Xiaomi 12 series, while Oppo offers a Bluetooth speaker and neck massager for the pre-orders of the Reno7 series.

“Vietnam is a big mobile game market and brands are sponsoring events to increase their presence. Samsung has become the official PUBG Mobile sponsor at the SEA Games,” said the expert.

The online channel grew by 20% compared to the same period last year, and accounted for 18% of the total number of smartphones launched in the market. E-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Tiki and Lazada held sales events in March 2022, with various incentives in the smartphone segment, leading to a sharp increase in sales.

Regarding smartphone production in Vietnam, Counterpoint said that factories are gradually accelerating, OEMs are increasing investment to improve product creation capacity. However, global component shortages and inflation could create bottlenecks in domestic production activities and impact future smartphone shipments. con-tien-de-hoat-dong-toi-thang-6-gia-co-phieu-thi-giam-toi-90-20220529085349972.chn
